I’ve read
more than a score
of stories of how the Mossad operates.
For those
who may not be aware,
Mossad is the Intelligence wing
of Israel. Included
amongst their primary
KRAs of intelligence collection
and counterterrorism is their assumed
responsibility to bring
back to Israel,
from across the word, any Jew who wants to come and is unable
to. And to ensure protection
of the Jewish
community anywhere in the world.
That’s a faith every
Jew has on his country’s
national intelligence agency.
And that’s the fear every
terrorist who kills
an Israeli, has.
That the Mossad
will track them
down, one day.
And eliminate them.
The methodical
way by which
the Black September
organization members were
tracked and killed
can get anybody’s
adrenalin pumping. After
11 members of the Israeli
Olympic team were
murdered during the 1972 Olympics
at Munich, Prime
Minister Golda Meir
ordered Mossad to assassinate all those who had been
involved in the kidnapping and annihilation of the Israeli
sportsmen. This was like a return of the Holocaust
days; spilling of Jewish blood
on German soil.
Mossad systematically tracked
down the Palestinians involved
in the massacre.
And finished them.
It’s just
a few weeks
more to our Lok Sabha
elections. All the campaigns and jingles by our parties
are strikingly (or rather, disgustingly) similar;
across the span
of the country.
If one is the incumbent
in a particular
state, the statisticians are busy putting
together numbers of flyovers sanctioned,
roads built and poverty schemes
launched. If one is not the incumbent,
then the gross
errors made and increase in inflation and corruption levels
during the previous
period are repeatedly
drilled into the head in a droning
voice.
Not a single person
tells me that
they will make
India safe for me. That
they will ensure
that no terrorist
can bomb me or make
me put my hands up against the wall and shoot me in front
of my family,
in my own country. Leave
aside for the time being,
if that happens
in an international destination.
Is that
too much to ask for?
Like a small child
taught the same
thing over and over again,
will I always
be told that
it is difficult
to implement this
in India as against, say,
Israel, because of the sheer
size and density
of India’s population?
But why?
If we have too many people
to take care
of; why does
the equally important
fact not register
that we have
so many more
people to recruit
from and incorporate
in our security
wings to take
care of the security of our billions?
Who will
give me that
strength to say;
I am an Indian and not a single bloody
terrorist can dare
attack me; within
the confines of my geography,
to start with.
Is any Prime Ministerial
candidate (whether appointed
by a party
or self elected)
willing to take
that responsibility?
